Legacy Giving

You are here

Wills & Bequests

Legacy giving is a wonderful way to support the things you care about most, now and after you're gone.

For many donors it's also an important part of their estate planning. Whatever your reasons, creating a legacy gift for the Pender Islands Health Care Centre provides vital funding required to meet the ongoing needs of the Health Centre.

A charitable bequest is a gift specified in your will. You can designate a certain sum of money, a particular asset, or a portion of your estate.

Giving a legacy gift is an important decision that requires thoughtful planning and one that you will want to discuss with your lawyer, notary or financial planner.

Legacy Gifts Life Insurance RRSp's, RRIF's, Property

Life Insurance

There are many ways to make a gift using life insurance. Give ownership of a new or an existing policy to the Pender Islands Health Care Society, or simply name the Society as the beneficiary. You can also make a gift by using life insurance to replace the value of a current gift of cash or stock to your heirs. Each option has different tax consequences and may make sense at different stages of life.

Retirement Savings Plans and Retirement Income Funds

You can designate the Pender Islands Health Care Society as beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF, or in some cases, you may wish to make a gift in your will equal to the proceeds from your RRSP or RRIF. These assets are highly taxed after the later of your, or your spouse¹s death. By donating an RRSP or RRIF, you will offset the tax that would otherwise be payable on these assets by your estate.

Property

You can donate real estate, shares in privately held corporations, royalty interests, works of art, jewelry collections, or other property to the Pender Islands Health Care Society. Once appraised, a tax receipt will be issued equal to the value of your gift.
