Howard Cummer

Howard Cummer is originally from Saskatchewan. He graduated High School from Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw and then studied at the University of Saskatchewan, earning a B. Comm. Econ in 1965. He went on to the University of Western Ontario to complete his MA Econ and then Post Graduate studies at the London School of Economics. He returned to Canada and worked for Bell Canada Montreal as an Economist and moonlighted as a scriptwriter for CBC Montreal. In 1969 he wrote the Foreign Service exams and joined the Trade Commissioner Service in Ottawa. In 1970 he was posted to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and in the next decade went on to serve in Los Angeles, Ottawa, Hong Kong and Beijing. In 1979 he left the Foreign Service and joined Canpotex Limited selling Saskatchewan potash to Asian markets. He did this for the next 26 years, living in Saskatoon, Singapore and Hong Kong. He retired in 2006 and has spent time on Pender Island since 2008. He has been on the PIHCS Board since 2016.
