Community Chop & Chat

You are here

There is no cost for this event. We'll gather on Wednesday evenings, from 6pm to 8:30pm, on a weekly, ongoing basis to learn food skills, share stories and make meals together. Everyone will return home with food. We'll have frozen meals to heat up if anyone is hungry. Participants can bring a knife, cutting board, apron, and food containers. We'll have extras on hand. Our short term goal is to learn food skills and have fun.

THE SCHEDULE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AND SPACE MAY BE LIMITED. Dates are posted in the column on the left hand side of this page. To reserve your spot and stay informed of any changes, register by e-mailing community_gathering@outlook.com. We welcome drop ins, but we cannot gaurantee a spot. If you have friends and neighbours who need help with registration, they can drop in to the Tech Cafe (Fri), Community Support (Tues & Thu) and the Community Resource Centre (Mon, Wed & Fri).

Long term we hope to make and sell frozen meals through our Friday Community Kitchen to subsidize the program and to provide discounted meals to the Food Bank and other organizations serving low income populations. Check back in for updates as this program evolves.

Guest Cooks - We welcome guest cooks! We encourage you to come to at least one chop & chat to check it out.

Youth Involvement - We welcome youth and their families to join in growing their food and interpersonal skills.

Child Minding - The Community Hall and the Health Centre welcome caregivers and child care services to coordinate child care at the hall. Check with the hall to see if space is available and to make arrangements.

Events & Activities - The Community Hall and the Health Centre would welcome guests hosts to lead other activities such as games, arts and crafts, during the chop & chat. We think it would be wonderful to have events to
